“Summer Lovin'” – first thing that came to mind was Grease, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John singing about a summer fling. “Tell me more, tell me more ….”
If I were younger and or a different person, perhaps I might have actually followed that train of thought through to its obvious conclusion … but the person I am today runs screaming from the room. For me, summer love is in nature. It’s those things that come to life in the warmth of the sun and in warm summer rains.
They tower above me, prickly and delicate, Globe Thistle reaching for the sun.As we wander the grounds, the breeze jostles the delicate Lavender spikes into the Wheat (I think it’s Wheat) freeing the soothing scent that lifts spirits and calms them at the same time.As I walk by the field, a glimpse of red catches my eye. When I get closer, I realise that a tiny glade of Mayweed and Poppies sits in the middle of the Broad Beans.White roses represent purity and innocence; this rose, directly after a rain seems to epitomise that.I think it’s Rudbeckia Laciniata, but I’m really not sure. Either way, the cheerful yellow faces reaching for the sun bring a smile to my face every time. The Mayweed seems to float; their stems so fragile as to be incapable of holding up the blossoms. It blooms in July; Great Willowherb seems to glow with colour, but in this moment at the end of a day, it truly seems to create its own light.
These are the things that represent summer lovin’ to me – these growing things that only occur in the heat of summer, with the sun’s encouragement and the nourishment of the earth and rain. The memory of them carries me through the worst of dark winter days, as love carries us through the dark periods of our lives.
But really, this next shot says it very well. He’s bald as a Jay in dark winter, but come summer, he is the Green Man incarnate.
This is Fred. He lives down the lane. Summer is when his hair grows in, in all its glory.
Love these summer days and hold them in your hearts, for these are among the things that are worth holding onto.
I'm a Canadian who loves our planet and the people living on it. I also love to travel and take pictures. I'd like to think I've improved a little, but am pretty sure there's room to be better.

I really like the perspective you used in many of your photos to give height and importance to the flowers/plants. The rose photo is beautiful.
