“I’m going to my happy place, Les,” says the mother in ‘Strictly Ballroom’, plastering a grin on her face and whirling around the ballroom studio as her world crumbles around her. We all have those moments when the world just gets on top of you and you need to escape. Here are some of my escapes to a happy place.
Wherever your happy place takes you, coming back and living life becomes easier for a while as you bask in the warmth of the memories of being there.
When I close my eyes, I am sitting in the roots of an Oak tree on an early Autumn afternoon. The butterflies land on long, sun-hot grasses and my hair tickles my cheek when the breeze jostles it. I inhale the scent of the heat, the grasses, the dirt, the bark behind me. The air is still and silent, except for the rustle of leaves and grass. Quiet. Peaceful. All I have to do is close my eyes and breathe … and I am there.
