This was fun because part of the challenge was which aspect of the collaboration I wanted to highlight. In the end, it was about the instrument – fingers moving over the instrument to create the music. However, that close-up had a different take, one that was more about the player than the instrument.

The focus is more on the musician here, than on the instrument.

The next shot is utterly different and suggested by my clarinet player as something to try. From table level, with my focus on the music rather than the instrument and player.

The focus is the music itself, rather than the musician.

We really are enjoying our work together. We push one another. We encourage one another. In the end, we challenge one another.

And in the end, this shot couldn’t be about her or me or the music; rather, it had to be about the creation of the music and the photograph.
